Welcome.
Callum Campbell is a Vancouver-based oil painter working primarily in realism with impressionistic elements. A Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate from the University of British Columbia, his work often explores quiet, lived-in moments through portraiture, contemporary fashion and thoughtfully composed spaces. His paintings balance technical precision with a loose, intuitive process.

My work is deeply inspired by historical reference. As my Dad is also an artist, my upbringing was filled with gallery visits and time spent absorbing the works of Cézanne, Caravaggio, Seurat, and others. These early influences have shaped the way I approach painting today. I find myself drawn to both the technical precision and portrait mastery of Baroque artists, as well as the abstracted colour and approach to composition from the Impressionists. These two lineages continue to inform my work, and my current aim is often to juxtapose their qualities within a single composition.
My subject matter is also influenced by a love for thoughtfully designed spaces and the fashion world. Inspiration can come from anywhere, from the interiors of cafés discovered while wandering Barcelona to a look from Jonathan Anderson’s SS ‘26 runway collection. Above all, I aim to create paintings that feel open-ended and narrative in tone, allowing the viewer’s imagination to move freely and form its own interpretation of who the subject is, what they are doing, and where they are.
